What is Helicobacter pylori?
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a Gram-negative, microaerophilic bacterium that colonizes the stomach lining.
It is a leading cause of:
-
Chronic active gastritis
-
Peptic ulcer disease
-
Gastric carcinoma
-
Gastric MALT lymphoma
According to the World Health Organization, H. pylori is a Class I carcinogen and affects nearly 50% of the global population.
Why Choose the Urea Breath Test (UBT)?
The UBT is the gold-standard method for diagnosing active H. pylori infection and for monitoring post-treatment eradication.
Compared to traditional invasive methods (endoscopy, biopsy), it is:
-
Non-invasive
-
Safe
-
Simple
-
Highly accurate
-
Fast (results in minutes)
Operating Principle
When a patient ingests a small 14C-urea capsule, if H. pylori bacteria are present, their urease enzyme breaks the urea into ammonia and labeled carbon dioxide (14CO₂).
The patient’s exhaled breath is then analyzed by the HUBT-20P system to detect the presence of 14CO₂ — confirming the infection.
Testing Procedure
-
The patient takes one 14C-urea capsule orally.
-
Wait for approximately 15 minutes.
-
The patient exhales onto a HUBT-20P collection card until the color changes from orange to yellow.
-
The analyzer processes the sample and displays results as positive or negative for H. pylori infection.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
-
Each test exposes patients to only 1.59 μSv, significantly less than a one-hour airplane flight (3.00 μSv).
-
The test is safe and environment-friendly.
-
China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) have both granted regulatory exemption for medical diagnostic use of 14C-urea capsules.
-
Over 10 million tests have been safely conducted worldwide.
